I think it starts as a tiny ember, deep inside your heart. A bright flicker of hot red heat that lets you know how very alive you are. It throbs with the beat of your heart and with that beat comes the understanding that this world is not a lonely one.
That someone else has the same bright flicker of hot red heat that beats in time with yours.
And sometimes, the flicker stays just where it belongs, deep inside your heart, safe.
But sometimes it lets loose, spreads through your veins, bursts out of your fingertips, escapes.
Leaves a ghost trail of singed fire and scattered scars that map back to your core.
So you set yourself on fire.
Ignite.
Until even in the darkest night you can feel the sunbursts against your closed lids. Because that's what it feels like to live. You burn until there is nothing left.
It takes time. But you heal. The pain dims. The scars fade.
And you begin again.
I think it starts as a tiny ember, deep inside your heart. A bright flicker of hot red heat that lets you know how very alive you are. It throbs with the beat of your heart and with that beat comes the understanding that this world is not a lonely one.
